What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic Dentistry is a type of dentistry that focuses on different procedures that enhance the overall appearance of your teeth, gums, and bites. This is done by improving or making changes to the position of your teeth, along with their color, shape, size, and alignment.

If your teeth are discolored, stained, worn, chipped, broken, misaligned, misshapen, or have odd gaps between them, the expert dentists at The Smile Clinic are ready and waiting to help you get the smile you deserve.

If you have discolored, stained, worn, chipped, broken, misaligned, or misshapen teeth, or have odd gaps between them, our Dentist can make your smile effective by resolving all the above-mentioned problems.

Services We Offer

At The Smile Clinic in Boronia, AU, we offer a wide array of cosmetic dental services that are designed to improve the look and feel of your teeth.

1 - Dental Veneers

Dental Veneers (also known as Porcelain Veneers or Dental Porcelain Lamination) improve the appearance of your teeth while also protecting what’s left of the tooth. With dental veneers, the dentist takes a custom-made shell and bonds it over your existing tooth. The veneers are colored like real teeth, and they can hide broken or misshaped teeth.

There are two types of Veneers that the dentists at The Smile Clinic in Boronia use:

Temporary Veneers

Temporary veneers are shells that are removable, adjustable, and replaceable. Temporary veneers are different from permanent veneers because they are somewhat thicker and made of different materials. They also tend to look less natural than permanent veneers, while being a little more sensitive when chewed with.

Permanent Veneers

Permanent veneers use materials that are higher in quality than what temporary veneers use. Usually, permanent veneers are made from porcelain, and are thinner and less bulky than temporary veneers.

Permanent veneers are custom made to fit your teeth and will match the color, shape, and size of your existing teeth. You also won’t have to worry about these veneers popping off or coming loose while chewing, since they are cemented onto the existing tooth. When applied properly, permanent veneers tend to last for 7 to 15 years before they need to be replaced.

What Happens After Placement:

Once you have had your veneers installed, you should keep in mind the following things.

  • You should avoid eating, chewing, or drinking anything until the effects of the anesthesia have worn off. This will prevent any harm to your lips, tongue, or cheeks.
  • If your gums are sore following the procedure, you should rinse your mouth with warm salt water, or take a pain reliever if needed.
  • Avoid eating or biting down on hard food to prevent damaging the veneers during the curing process.
  • Avoid drinking dark sodas, coffee, and other dark beverages to prevent swelling and other issues.
  • If pain persist after the operation, or your veneers become loose, call your dentist immediately.

At The Smile Clinic, we offer both temporary and permanent veneers for our patients. We’ll restore your original perfect smile within three visits.

2 - Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are a type of indirect restoration that’s used on decayed molars and premolars. Both, inlays and onlays are made of gold, porcelain, or ceramic materials. They’re also custom made to fit into and match the shape of your tooth.

We offer and inlays & onlays as part of our wide array of cosmetic services.

Inlays are typically used when there is no damage to the cusps of your teeth. The inlay is placed into the cavity to cover the chewing surface between the cusps. This prevents the surviving tissue from being further damaged while eating or drinking.

Onlays tend to be used when a tooth has large cavities that need more coverage than an inlay offers. Onlays give the tooth more strength when biting and offer greater amounts of protection.

3 - Dental Filling

Fillings (as they are often referred to) are used to repair damaged molars or premolars. When molars become damaged or decayed from cavities, fillings can be inserted to restore the strength of the tooth. Typically, fillings tend to be made of gold, porcelain, silver amalgam, or composite resin material.

Having fillings placed in your cavities is a pretty simple process. The dentist will remove and clean the decayed or damaged material. Once that is done, tooth-colored material is applied to the cavity. Lastly, a special light is shined on the material that hardens the fillings.

4 - Teeth Whitening

If you have discolored, stained, or pale teeth, The Smile Clinic is able to help. We can use the latest advances in tooth whitening technology to make your teeth shine again.

1. How will I know what sort of cosmetic treatments are right for me?

It’s pretty hard to figure out what you need on your own. You may very well have cavities or some other sort of damage that you don’t even know about. It’s important that you come in for a consultation before deciding on any sort of treatment. Depending on what the dentist does or doesn’t find, you may need to have some x-rays taken as well.

2. Are any of the different cosmetic treatments toxic?

No. All of the different treatment methods that the professionals at The Smile Clinic use have been properly tested and certified. We take your safety seriously, and ensure that everything we offer is completely safe for our clients.

3. How many visits will my procedure take?

Every patient is unique. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to say how long any different procedure might take because each and every patient who comes into The Smile Clinic is treated as an individual with unique needs, and a unique mouth!

4. How long will my new smile last me?

Because our practice uses only the highest quality materials for our patients, your new smile could last for decades. However, the lifespan of our work depends heavily on the patient developing and keeping good oral hygiene habits.

5. Will my veneers get stained over time?

Depending on the materials used for your veneers, most likely no. Especially if you have porcelain veneers. The great thing about using porcelain as a dental material in veneers and replacement crowns, is that porcelain will never stain.
